Citex
www.trycitex.online · Goal: Get a founder or SEO team to start a free trial and then pay for AI visibility tracking.
Its founder posted "roast my SaaS and its design" in public and offered to roast mine back. This is the roast. It will be removed on request.
01 · The five-second read
What a stranger gets
- It watches what ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews answer about your brand.
- It shows which competitors get named instead of you, and which sources the answers cite.
- It runs the prompts for you on a schedule rather than you retyping them in five tabs.
What they miss
- What it costs. The pricing block ships with a Monthly and Yearly toggle and no number anywhere in the HTML: the amounts only exist once the page has run its scripts. A visitor who wants the price before the trial has to guess.
- Who else uses it. The page has a heading that reads "What people say" followed by nothing at all. An empty testimonial section says more than no section.
- Which door to walk through. Above the fold you are offered a 7-day trial, a sample-data demo, a free AEO report in about 10 minutes, and a free 18-criteria check. Four free offers is not four times the conversion, it is a choice nobody makes.
02 · Fixes, ranked
- 01
Put a number on the page, in the HTML
The headline promise is measurable and the product is for people who compare tools. Hiding the price behind a toggle that only renders in JavaScript costs you the visitors who came to compare, and it tells search engines nothing.
Change: Write the entry price as text next to the main button: "From $X a month, 7-day trial, no card". Keep the toggle for the rest.
- 02
Delete the empty proof section or fill it
An empty "What people say" is the one thing on the page that actively works against you: it shows the slot exists and that nobody filled it.
Change: Two real sentences from two named users, with company and role. If there are none yet, replace the section with a number you own: prompts tracked, answers stored, brands watched.
- 03
Pick one free door
The demo with sample data is the strongest of the four, because it shows the product working without asking for anything. The other three compete with it.
Change: Make the demo the only call to action above the fold. Move the AEO report to the end of the page, and let the trial start from inside the demo.
- 04
Name the buyer in the headline area
"See why AI recommends your competitors instead of you" is a good line, but the page only says who it is for halfway down, in a small caption.
Change: One line under the headline: "For SaaS founders, SEO teams and agencies who are losing recommendations they cannot see."
- 05
Show one real answer
Everything on the page describes the output. The output itself, an actual assistant answer naming a competitor with its citation, is the most convincing asset you have and it is not shown.
Change: One screenshot of a real tracked answer, brand names blurred if needed, directly under the headline.
03 · New words
Headline
- Option 1: Find out which brand ChatGPT names instead of yours.
- Option 2: Your buyers ask the assistant first. See what it answers.
- Option 3: AI recommends someone in your category. See who, and why.
Subheadline
- Option 1: Citex asks the five assistants your buyers use, on a schedule, and stores every answer with its sources.
- Option 2: See the prompts you lose, the rivals who win them, and the pages those answers cite.
- Option 3: One dashboard instead of seven manual steps in five tabs.
Button
- Option 1: Open the live demo, no signup
- Option 2: See a real answer
- Option 3: Track my brand
04 · Friction I can see
- The served HTML is 43 KB and scores 100 on my machine checks: title, description, share image, viewport, language and canonical are all in place. The gaps here are editorial, not technical.
- Five languages are offered in the header before the visitor knows what the product does.
- The comparison table names seven manual steps. It is the clearest block on the page and it sits below three sections that repeat the feature list.
Verdict
Technically clean and clearly written, with the two things a stranger needs before trying it missing: a price and someone else who uses it. Fixing the empty proof block and putting one number in the HTML costs an hour.
